About the Women’s Producers’ Cooperative:

This is the first time we’ve offered coffee from the Hingakawa Women’s Coffee Cooperative, which is part of a larger organization, the Abakundakawa-Rushashi Cooperative, founded in 2004. It is the first farmers’ association entirely run by women in Rwanda. Both associations are located in the northern mountainous regions of Gakenke District, at an altitude of 1,700 to 2,200 meters.

The association employs Hutu and Tutsi women who have lived through some of the darkest periods in African history. They returned to Rwandan hillside coffee plantations after they were temporarily abandoned to restart production. Together, they strive to cultivate the finest coffees and pave the way for reconciliation, revitalization, and improved living conditions. He is a true model of leadership, demonstrating that coffee farming can bring about positive change in a society.

Hingakawa (meaning “Let’s grow coffee”) is more of a chant than a simple declaration: it’s a resolution to fight poverty rather than one against another. The micro-lot we’re offering you is a honey-processed Bourbon variety coffee.
