This coffee maker (commonly called a "Bodum" because of the popular brand) requires coarsely ground coffee beans, which remain in contact with hot water before being filtered through a metal filter.
This highly porous filter captures the oils and flavors of the beans, producing a cup of coffee with more body and less sediment than a coffee maker with a paper filter (beware of heartburn; more sensitive people may experience it when drinking coffee brewed in this type of coffee maker).
- Add approximately 40g of ground coffee (for an 800ml coffee maker).
- Cover the ground coffee with a little hot water (94°C) and wait 30 seconds (when the water in your kettle boils, it's best to wait 2 minutes before pouring it over your coffee, otherwise it will be too hot).
- Fill the rest of the carafe with hot water and stir with a spoon. Wait 3-4 minutes then gently press the plunger.
