AEROPRESS – Preparation guide

The Aeropress is one of the most beautiful coffee maker inventions, in our opinion!

Compact, lightweight, and unbreakable, it's the ultimate travel and camping coffee maker.

What's more, it makes excellent coffee even when varying the grind, the amount of coffee used, and the brewing time.

At Bivouac, we like to use a medium-coarse grind (between espresso and filter) for the Aeropress.

Here's our simple preparation method:

  • Gently pull the Aeropress plunger all the way to the edge to "open" it (see photo).
  • Place the Aeropress in an inverted position (see photo).
  • Add 15-18g of ground coffee.
  • Cover the ground coffee with a little hot water (94°C) and wait 30 seconds (when the water in your kettle boils, it's best to wait 2 minutes before pouring it over your coffee, otherwise it will be too hot).
  • Fill the rest of the Aeropress with hot water and stir with a spoon.
  • Place the round paper filter in the lid and screw it onto the Aeropress.
  • Turn the Aeropress upside down over the cup, wait 1 minute, then press the plunger so the coffee flows into the cup.
