About the producers' cooperative:
In cup, our partner cooperative Maya Vinic's specialty coffee has a classic Chiapas profile, with medium body, bright acidity, balanced by sweet, deep flavors of nougat, caramel, chocolate and spice. This coffee delights those who drink it black, as an espresso or for drip. The roast is dark, but not bitter.
Maya Vinic (a Cooperative Coffees partner for 20 years!) is made up of some 500 coffee-growing families located in 38 highland communities in the municipalities of Chenalhó, Pantelhó and Chalchihuitán in Chiapas, Mexico. Each member owns on average one hectare of land and produces about 400 kilos of coffee beans per year. Inspired by the traditions of their ancestors, coffee farmers operate with respect to language, local culture and traditional forms of self-governance.
Striving to provide consistent quality coffee, grown with care and respect for their natural resources, the cooperative provides regular education and capacity building activities for its farmer members focusing on sustainable farming techniques and the importance of a strong social economy.
